Completed Magnetic Closure

A magnetic snap adds a professional looking touch to any knitted or felted bag.

Instructions
Step 1: Using a fabric marker or pen mark on the wrong side of your lining where you want the snap to be added. Mark fabric with the location you want to use for the snap
Step 2: Cut out a piece of fusible interfacing that is slightly larger than the snap and attach it to the fabric following the instructions that come with the interfacing.

Notes

  • Adding a fusible interfacing to the fabric beneath the snap is optional, but is recommended for thin fabrics.
  • Plastic mesh, available at craft and sewing stores, could be used in place of the fusible interfacing.

Step 3: Hold the two prongs of the snap next to the lining at the point you marker earlier. Make 2 marks where you want the snap prongs to come through the fabric. Mark the location of the snap prongs
Step 4: Using a straight pin transfer the marks to the other side of bag. This will line up the two sides of the snap. Transfer the prong locations to the other side of the bag
Step 5: Cut 2 small slits through the fabric and interfacing on those marks. Cut small openings for the snap's prongs
Step 6: Slide the snap's prongs through the slits from the right to wrong side of the fabric. Slide the prongs through the slits
Step 7: Secure the snap by placing the washer over the prongs and folding them down. Secure the snap
Step 8: Attach the other piece of the snap to the other side of the lining repeating steps 5-7. Add fusible interfacing to the fabric
