Stitch Name: I-cord
Common Abbreviations: None
Use: I-cord is most often used to make cords to tie things or handles for felted bags. It can also be used in conjunction with a bind off for a sturdy edging on a felted bag.

[edit] Basic I-Cord Instructions

  1. Cast on several stitches onto a double pointed needle. The number of stitches you cast on will depend on how large you want the cord to be (5-8 is typical).
  2. Knit all stitches in the row.
  3. Slide theses stitches to the opposite end of the double pointed needle (from the left end to the right end).
  4. Keeping the yarn behind your work, knit the first stitch on the right end of the needle. Pull the stitch tight to close the gap between the stitches.
  5. Repeat Steps 2-4 until the I-cord reaches the desired length.
